SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
1 RULES
1.1 The race will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing; however, the rules of
WFPHRF will not apply except for ratings.
1.2 VHF radios are required; no other electronics allowed.
1.3 All boat shall be sailed single-handed.
2 NOTICES TO COMPETITORS
2.1 Notices will be posted on the official notice board in the lower level on the western wall.
2.2 The race committee will communicate with competitors on VHF channel 72.
3 CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Any change to the sailing instructions will be posted prior to 0900 on November 24.
4 SIGNALS MADE ASHORE
4.1 Signals made ashore will be displayed from the flagpole located west of the clubhouse.
4.2 When flag AP is displayed ashore, ‘1 minute’ is replaced with ‘not less than 30 minutes’ in race signal AP.
5 SCHEDULE OF RACES
1000 Warning signal for Old Shoe Class
1200 Warning signal for New Shoe Class
6 CLASS FLAGS
6.1 The class flag for the Old Shoe class will be a green flag with the letter “G”.
6.2 The class flag for the New Shoe class will be a blue flag with the letter “N”.
7 THE COURSES
7.1 The course for the Old Shoe class will be:
• Start at A-mark
• Round 25’ Privately Maintained to port
• Finish at the entrance to the Club basin
7.2 The course for the New Shoe class will be posted, and distributed at the competitors meeting.
8 MARKS
8.1 The starting mark with be A-mark.
8.2 Marks for the New Shoe class will be fixed Club marks.
9 STARTS
9.1 The starting line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on a race committee vessel and
A-mark.
9.2 The race committee will hail OCS boats on VHF. The failure of the race committee to hail, the timeliness of hails, or sequence of the hails shall not be grounds for redress. This changes RRS 62.1.
10 THE FINISH
The finish line will be at the entrance to the Seaplane Basin, formed by the two range markers.
11 PENALTY SYSTEM
11.1 The Two-Turns Penalty of RRS 44.1 is replaced by the One-Turn Penalty. A boat who breaks a rule of
Part 2, without contact, shall take this penalty.
11.2 Any boat making contact with another boat shall promptly retire from the race. This changes NoR
1.6.
12 TIME LIMIT
Boats still racing at 1500 will be scored DNF.
13 PROTESTS
There will be no protests in any class. This changes NoR 1.6.
14 SCORING
14.1 One race is planned for each class.
14.2 WFPHRF time-on-distance ratings will be used, Cruising ratings for the Old Shoe class and Non- Spinnaker ratings for the New Shoe class.
14.3 No races will be excluded from a boat’s score.
15 SAFETY
A boat that retires from the racing area shall notify the race committee as soon as possible.
16 RADIO COMMUNICATIONS
Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available to all boats, except for emergencies. This restriction also applies to cellular telephones and other electronic devices.
17 DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
Competitors participate in the regatta entire at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.
