2013 Labor Day Night Race
Aug 30 @ 7:15 pm

The DIYC Labor Day Night Race is a unique experience because the start is right before sunset. This race offers a great opportunity for crew to gain experience with night sailing and navigation. The race is just long enough to offer challenging distance-race tactics, but its short enough to keep logistics simple. Come join us for a fun night-sail around the Bay!

DIYC Commodore’s Cup @ Davis Islands Yacht Club
Jan 18 – Jan 19 all-day

You are invited to participate and we think you will like what we have planned!

We are doing some things differently:

  • We believe you shouldn’t have to leave home before dawn to go sailing, so the starting times are more civilized.
  • We will not require you to attend a skippers meeting on Friday evening, as the Sailing Instructions will be available online at least a week ahead.
  • We have US Sailing Certified Regional Race Officers on both courses, and they have pledged to coordinate so that most boats arrive back at DIYC after racing within a reasonable time window.
  • Saturday dinner will be served no more than 90 minutes after most boats dock. You will not have to wait until some later, fixed time! It is priced low enough to make it easy for your team to stay and eat.

Docking at DIYC is free. You are welcome to bring tents, RVs (with a reservation), campers, or to sleep on your boat. The pool house restrooms and hot showers will be open to all.

This is a DIYC and Suncoast Boat of the Year regatta.

Tampa Bay Hospice Cup @ Davis Islands Yacht Club

2014-logo-1

Similar to the traditions of the Morgan Invasion, the Tampa Bay Hospice Cup appeals to both cruisers and racers. With a strong focus on informal sailing and camaraderie, the event caters to cruising enthusiasts that just want to come out and be part of a fun. In addition to the traditional Morgan Invasion fleets, the regatta also features open non-Morgan fleets for PHRF, Multi-hulls, and a “Just-for-Fun” casual fleet. The committee also plans landside activities for supporters who’d like to be a part of the event but who don’t care to race.

DIYC Halloween Regatta
Oct 25 all-day

This new event for DIYC encourages participation from veteran racers to casual cruisers looking to check out the racing scene.  There are classes for everyone with choices in spinnaker vs. non-spinnaker, full crew or double-handed, and distance vs. buoys.  By popular request, this is a one day event.  Racing is scheduled in the afternoon, so your morning is free for life’s other obligations.  After an afternoon of racing, DIYC will host a post-race “Halloween” party for all participants and guests.
