DIYC Halloween Regatta
Oct 31 all-day

If you missed it last year, you do NOT want to miss it this year.  Costumes on and off the water didn’t distract from great competition, but they definitely added smiles.  The Halloween Regatta encourages participation from veteran racers to casual cruisers looking to check out the racing scene.  Competitors can choose from spinnaker or cruising classes and expect interesting distance courses around Hillsborough Bay.  By popular request, this is a one day event.  Racing is scheduled in the afternoon so your morning is free for life’s other obligations.  After an afternoon of racing, DIYC will host a post-race “Halloween” costume party for all participants, guests, and all club members.

Egmont Key Race
Nov 21 all-day

2015 marks the 80th anniversary of the oldest running sailboat race on the west coast of Florida!  To mark this special event, for the first ever, the race course will take us AROUND the island (we tried in 2014, but maintenance dredging blocked the course).  Be a part of history and test your endurance.  The Davis Island Egmont Key race is both a DIYC and Suncoast BOTY event.  There is short course for smaller boats that will stay inside the Skyway Bridge, but still offer a challenging course. The long course will go “around” Egmont key, once again qualifying the race for the prestigious Wall perpetual trophy.  All racers can look forward to the traditional DIYC Chili Cookoff event at the club to finish off the race.  This event is both a DIYC and Suncoast BOTY event.

DIYC Hillsborough Bay Race
Feb 27 all-day

“Come Hell or high water” was the phrase used by our first regatta chair, Brian Malone.  This distance race is held in Hillsborough Bay, but don’t assume it is just an afternoon cruise.  Test your navigation skills and plan to race even if the weather pipes up.  This time of year is prone to fronts.  In the internet age, most race decisions are made at the bar watching radar.  You can plan to race this one and hone your heavy weather skills, so don’t shy away if there is a blow.

Tampa Bay Hospice Cup – Registration @ Davis Islands Yacht Club
Apr 22 all-day

Hospice Cup-logo-1

Similar to the traditions of the Morgan Invasion, the Tampa Bay Hospice Cup appeals to both cruisers and racers. With a strong focus on informal sailing and camaraderie, the event caters to cruising enthusiasts that just want to come out and be part of a fun. In addition to the traditional Morgan Invasion fleets, the regatta also features open non-Morgan fleets for PHRF, Multi-hulls, and a “Just-for-Fun” casual fleet. The committee also plans landside activities for supporters who’d like to be a part of the event but who don’t care to race.

DIYC Tampa to Ft. Myers @ Davis Island Yacht Club
May 27 – May 28 all-day

The race’s history dates back to 1946. 2015′s race was held for the first time over Memorial Day weekend. A resurgence of this race had 20 competitors and a commitment from many more to race in 2016.  This 100 mile coastal race has everything from a J-24 to 40′+ footers on the course.  We anticipate adding multi-hulls in ’16 and continue to grow momentum.  Of course, the destination is fabulous finishing at Ft Myers Beach – one of the remaining “old Florida” beach towns.  ALL competitors compete for the Navigator’s Trophy donated by OH Rogers.  It is awarded to the first boat to finish in any class.
